Free Lunch Program

Dear Bennington Families.

The USDA is providing free meals to all students as an extension of the CARES Act of 2020.  Starting tomorrow, September 23, 2020, all students enrolled in Bennington Public Schools are eligible to receive a free breakfast and free lunch through the end of 2020, or until federal funding is no longer available. We are excited to share this information with our district families and hope this temporary benefit will help our community recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to this USDA free meal program, we will credit student meal accounts retroactive to the first day of school. Thus, all student meal accounts will be credited for meals purchased between August 12th – September 22nd.  School meals are scheduled to resume regular pricing on January 5, 2021.

Some important facts to know…….

  • All a la carte purchases will be charged to the student account at regular pricing. This includes:

    • Extra servings of an entrée, milk, fruit, vegetable or bread.

    • Milk for cold lunch brought from home.

    • Second meals.

    • Any single item that is not a meal.

  • This program does not apply to adult meals.

    • Adult lunch $3.85

    • Adult breakfast $2.35

  • Families are encouraged to complete a free and reduced application for the 20-21 school year if needed. Free and reduced benefits will resume in January 2021.

  • If you have remote learning student(s) in your household, you will receive a survey from your principal later this evening.

Please contact Tracy Watsabaugh, Coordinator of Nutrition Services, if you have any questions about this program.
